Charleston, SC Railfanning
One of our favorite locations has to be Charleston, SC. Norfolk Southern, CSX, Amtrak, and Palmetto Railway all within a stones throw - it's the perfect place to gather prototype photos for projects. From freight cars to MOW machines to models you would never imagine to put on your layout (yes, that rusty shrimp boat I'm talking about you), Charleston is full of model ideas. Below you'll find photos and videos from our visits to this charming city that never fails to impress.

~CSX intermodal - yard switching

~ CSX aggregate train running long hood forward

~ CSX Rhino Ballast Regulator - the small spur adjacent to the Amtrak station never disappoints. Often times you will find MOW units here and a rare Sperry rail detector car

~ CSX Pandrol Jackson ballast tamper

~ Sperry Rail Detection Car

~ Palmetto Railways 1001 sits outside the shops at the South Carolina Ports Columbus Street Terminal

~ Amtrak Palmetto with an ALC-42 in charge

~ We couldn't forget those rusty ole shrimp boats down by the docks at Shem Creek that will be a future model.
